Programme Notes

The aim of this repertoire is to show a spectrum of variated colours in different music styles. Starting with a German composer, the first movement of the Brahms E minor cello sonata is considered one of most iconic cello sonatas of the nineteenth century; I chose this piece as it offers a full set of powerful and diverse feelings in a single movement. This piece transmits me an indescribable passion, a climax beguiled by delighting tensions, and a calm ending in E major, which I find the perfect conclusion.

To contrast the German sonata, I chose a Spanish style piece: Requiebros by Gaspar Cassadó. It offers a charming and vibrant melody, held by the typical Spanish harmony. This piece fits with the energetic style of my playing, making possible to express myself with all freedom.
