Maria-Estella Fischer Violin German Age: 24 W.A. Mozart Amy Marcy Beach Pablo de Sarasate |
Maria-Estella is currently in her second year of Masters at the MTU Cork School of Music, studying with Patrick Rafter. She is also a scholarship recipient from the Faculty of Business and Humanities at MTU.
She completed her Bachelor of Music Degree in 2023 at the Conservatory of Music, Theatre and Media in Hanover with Prof. Meike Bertram and Hans-Christian Euler. She has participated and won multiple competitions as the German competition “Jugend musiziert” solo and as chamber musician at both regional and national level. She has played in several orchestras and has a passion for chamber music. Furthermore, Maria-Estella was engaged in numerous masterclasses with Prof. Michael Foyle (Royal Academy of Music), Oliver Kipp (NDR Radiophilharmonie) and Anne-Caroline Thies (Opera Orchestra Hanover). In August 2023, she was personally invited by Dmitry Sitkovetsky to attend his masterclass at the Blackmore Academy in Berlin which was funded by the Camerata Ireland Academy 2023. |
| Programme Notes
I chose Mozart’s “Rondo” in C-Major, Amy Beach’s “Romance” and Sarasate’s “Zigeunerweisen”* for their unique expressive qualities and the way they show the violin’s versatility and emotional range in different eras. Mozart’s “Rondo in C Major” is a brilliant example of Classical elegance and grace. Composed in 1776, it is full of vibrant energy and playful charm, characteristics that make it a joy to perform and listen to. The piece shows Mozart’s knack for creating delightful melodies and lively rhythms, and its structure allows the violin to demonstrate both technical agility and expressive phrasing. I included this piece in my selection because it provides a wonderful opportunity to explore the clarity and refinement typical of Mozart’s style, bringing a sense of joy and buoyancy to the program. Amy Beach’s “Romance” is a deeply lyrical piece that captures the essence of late Romantic sentimentality. Its flowing melodies and rich harmonic textures create a warm and intimate atmosphere, making it a perfect vehicle for expressing nuanced emotional depth. I chose this piece because it allows the violin to sing with a vocal-like quality, highlighting the instrument’s ability to convey heartfelt expression and romanticism. The “Romance” also provides a beautiful contrast to the other pieces in my repertoire, offering a moment of serene reflection and emotive storytelling. Pablo de Sarasate’s “Zigeunerweisen”* is renowned for its fiery virtuosity and passionate gypsy-inspired themes. Composed in 1878, it is a tour de force that combines dazzling technical demands with exotic, richly coloured melodies. This piece is not only a technical piece with its rapid passages and intricate bowing techniques but also a celebration of the expressive potential of the violin. Each of these pieces offers a distinct facet of the violin’s expressive capabilities, from the romantic warmth of Beach’s “Romance,” to the classical elegance of Mozart’s “Rondo,” and the dramatic flair of Sarasate’s “Zigeunerweisen.” Together, they form a compelling and diverse program that highlights the beauty and versatility of the violin repertoire. |
