Oran is a pianist born in Belfast. He began playing piano when he was seven years old, he then started formal lessons and working through the grades. By the age of fifteen, he began to expand on his listening of classical repertoire and that is when he discovered his love for music from the Romantic period. This would involve listening to Chopin Nocturnes, Liszt’s Piano Concertos or even Schubert’s Moments Musicaux.

Throughout school, Oran was always pushed to achieve his best, not only with piano but with violin. He entered competitions through orchestra, choir and string groups. He was involved in the Ballymena Music Festival throughout this time and entered in the solo piano and composition classes in which he obtained second place in both classes.

Oran took the single performance module in his second year at Queen’s University and played pieces by Brahms, Schubert and Albéniz. His teacher was Galina Crothers throughout his time at Queens’s. Galina achieved her MMus at the State Conservatoire Russia in 1982 and her PhD at the Royal Conservatoire Birmingham in 2010. She teaches piano performance at many levels and has a broad experience in delivering masterclasses through the education on piano pedagogy, aesthetics of performance and the history and theory of piano performance. Oran thoroughly enjoyed his lessons as they gave him the opportunity to explore qualities of tone, colour and frame of mind through different genres and this was something that he further wanted to explore. He expanded to study for the double performance module in his final year and played pieces by Schubert, Beethoven and Ginastera. Oran created his own interpretation and style, leading to achieve a first-class mark in his final double performance recital.
