 Oscar is a 21 year old euphonium player from Cork. He is in his third year of study at MTU Cork School of Music, where he studies euphonium and bass trombone with Antony Neal. Oscar began playing euphonium at age 12 under the tutelage of Gerard Condon and soon after joined Clonakilty Brass Band, where he is now principal euphonium.

Over the last couple of years, Oscar has sought out as many playing opportunities as he can from brass band playing, solo recitals, orchestral playing and everything in between. As principal euphonium of Clonakilty Brass Band, Oscar has performed at notable events such as New Music Dublin 2022 and a 2nd place finish with Clonakilty Brass Band at the 2022 South of Ireland Band Championships. He also has a keen interest in wind band playing, having successfully auditioned for the Irish Youth Wind Ensemble conducted by Ronan O’Reilly in 2019 and again in 2022, giving notable performances as principal euphonium.

Oscar is also principal euphonium of Cork Philharmonic Winds, and is a member of CSM Symphonic Wind Ensemble, conducted by his teacher, Antony Neal. In 2018, Oscar auditioned successfully for the position of euphonium in the Irish Youth Brass Band. As a bass trombonist, Oscar has performed with the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland in 2019. He has also performed with the Irish Film and Pops Orchestra, CSM Symphony Orchestra, Cork Fleischmann Symphony Orchestra, Cork Concert Orchestra, Irish Symphonic
Wind Orchestra and CSM Jazz Big Band.

As a soloist Oscar has performed numerous recitals and received prizes for performances in competitions such as Feis Maitiú, Cork ETB School of Music solo competition, Irish Association of Brass and Concert Band’s Online Solo competition and the Cork School of
Music’s Advanced Recital Competition where he was awarded Best Brass. He has also performed as a soloist on numerous occasions with Clonakilty Brass Band.

While pursuing his studies full-time, Oscar also applies himself as a freelance musician around the country, performing in venues such as the National Concert Hall, SETU Arena Waterford and Cork City Hall with ensembles such as UCD Symphony Orchestra, East Cork
Orchestra and The Cork Children’s Choir & Brass Quartet but to name a few.
